11 Videos in 11 Months: Racers Share Their Stories

Everyone has a story to tell.    When it comes to the World Race you may hear stories about squatty potties and overloaded buses, strange foods, and those weird sandals everyone wears.   Isn’t it more than that?   What about the stories of transformation, redemption, restoration, and healing? What about the God story that is written in each Racer’s life from the moment they find the World Race on Google to arriving back home after an 11-month trip around the world.   Those are the stories worth telling. And retelling. Those are the stories that must be heard....

The World Race Enters The World’s Newest Country

Adventures in Missions has some exciting news… We’ve just entered the newest country in the world!  The men of the January 2012 D and E World Race Squads are spending the month of August doing “manistry” in South Sudan, the world’s newest official nation. Sudan has been in the news for decades as the site of brutal military conflicts, human rights violations, drought and starvation, and underdevelopment. Its people have been ravaged by the Darfur conflict, two civil wars, and Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army. Fighting between the north...

World Race at Catalyst 2011 [Video]

We’ve mobilized over 1,000 young adults to the mission field via the World Race; Brandon Boyd was one of them. He just happened to launch his World Race six months ago in front of thousands of people. At the previous Catalyst Conference, which is held annually to raise up next generation leaders in the church, we also had the opportunity to facilitate an experiential exhibit on social justice and the gospel.   Brandon’s in the middle of his sixth month of the Race, over halfway through. We believe that before we can change the world, we ourselves must be transformed. The World...

Expect Nothing But the Miraculous

We often begin a new year with expectations, some new and some carried over from the previous year. Maybe we begin without any because we can’t bear the possibility of disappointment of unmet expectations. We approach ministry and missions similarly. Is there a discrepancy between what you anticipate from missions and what you read of Jesus’ ministry in the gospels, e.g. Matthew 10? When you think about being a part of a church community, is it like the early church as described in Acts? Stephanie May of the September 2011 A squad shares what she’s learned about...

World Racer Launching from Catalyst Conference: Be Present

Yesterday, Brandon Boyd, of the October 2011 World Race, flew from LAX to ATL. From the airport, he headed straight to this year’s Catalyst Conference where he spent two hours meeting and greeting folks (did any of you get to meet him?). This morning, Brandon takes the stage at Gwinnett Arena before the thousands of future leaders.  He will join the rest of the squad, who begins their Race in Guatemala. I’ll be on the stage talking about the World Race, my story of redemption, and how they have become one.  I have been straying from even...

So I Go

Do you feel…  discontent? stuck in the status quo? unfulfilled by the ordinary? like you’ve outgrown your life? You’re not the only one.  Right now, 31 year-old Chicago native and spoken word artist Michael Perez is in India, the ninth country of eleven on his World Race, which he began in September 2010.  While growing up in the inner city, amidst gangs and violence, he encountered God in an apartment building; he was 13 years old.  He’d witnessed everything from a homicide to God introducing himself to gang members on the streets...
