Our Best Stories From 2013

It has been a year full of great stories. We’ve seen God show up for his people – both the people we’ve set out to serve in the nations as well as our participants themselves. Below we’ve put together this list of great stories from our programs. We hope they encourage you and remind you that God is always up to something good behind the scenes — even when we don’t see it. And if reading these stories prompts you to be a part of it, we’ve attached all the info you’ll need. We hope you join us in 2014 for another adventure!    (For...

Merry Christmas From the Philippines

The Philippines is a country that’s been on all our hearts lately. Besides the relationships that we’ve had with the Filipino people for years through our mission work, it’s been on our hearts after being devastated by a major typhoon this fall. Here at Adventures, we have the privilege of sending teams from all our programs to this island nation. From one week disaster relief trips, to college students spending a semester abroad, to establishing a long-term mission base, we have an ongoing ministry there. This story comes from Allyson Quinn, one of our World Racers, who spent...

Being The Church of Hope

Life on the field can get hectic. Between travel, getting used to new cultural norms, and full days of ministry, it can be easy to miss the needs in front of you. However Megan Kennedy discovered, sometimes God places people that need care right in front of you.   The night Nehemiah showed up, I was distracted. The internet hadn’t been working all day. What’s on the Other Side of a Child Sponsorship Letter?

For the month of October, leading up to Orphan Sunday on November 3rd, we will be sharing stories on the theme of adoption and orphan care – stories of street kids, orphans, and children at risk, and the ways our missionaries have seen God care for them. We’ll share stories of missionaries caring for children, fighting for them, and even bringing them home to stay. And on Monday, November 5th, we’ll share a special story that is close to our hearts. To kick off our series, here is a story from Jessica Gasperin, a World Race alumnus from the July 2011 X Squad. After years...

Help Us Make Anthony’s Dream Come True

One of the best things about being a missionary is getting to be part of individual people's stories. We've met and fallen in love with thousands of people around the world, and we've gotten to help write little pieces of their stories – pieces where they understand how much God loves them, pieces where they learn to love each other, and pieces where their dreams come true. But sometimes someone's story stops early – it gets cut off when tragedy strikes, and we don't get to see how it would have ended. That's what happened to Anthony, and now we...

Our Trash, God’s Treasures

Katie Axelson is a freelance writer/editor who's striving to live a story worth telling. The next phase of her story will include the World Race (January 2014). She blogs at KatieAxelson.com and The Write Practice. My head spun around as the mother shouted, “No! Yucky,” and snatched her curious two-year-old’s hands away from the airport garbage can. That’s when reality hit. I had been back in the United States for less than an hour and already felt my first re-entry culture shock. It might seem natural for a mother to pull her child’s hands away from...
