One Year Later: Haiti, We Still Remember You

A lot can happen in a year. A massive earthquake hits; aftershocks follow. Buildings crumble. A cholera epidemic ensues. A nation votes. Spiritual revival sweeps through the Haitian church. The Western church mobilizes resources, prays and serves. Hope and faith grow. A year full of the tension between life and death in Haiti. A lot more needs to happen this year: You and your church can partner with a church in Haiti. You can spend a week (or more or less) with us in Haiti. You can pray. You can give. Here are 12 posts from our Haiti blog for...

Building a Roof for Pastor Enoch’s Home

Stephanie Pridgen is currently serving in Haiti as a writing correspondent. Teams are coming through to help with the rebuilding process after the massive January earthquake.   What if God asked you to turn your home into a church? Would you be willing? Pastor Enoch is one of the pastors we are working with in Port-Au-Prince, and he felt called to do just that. Eventually, he moved into another home just above his first one, but for a while, his home – housing himself, his wife and the eight children they care for – was also a church.   During the earthquake, the church...

Becoming a Child Like Jenny

Stephanie Pridgen is serving in Haiti as a writing correspondent.  She is reminded of the faith and innocence of a child as she holds a precious little girl during a church service.   She met me at the door of the church. A simple smile was her greeting as she reached up, curled a tiny hand around two of my fingers and led me to the front. We had never met. We had no history together. There was seemingly no reason she should come to me so willingly. Jenny danced, worshiped and shouted with the best of them – a beautiful picture of coming before God with childlike...

“We were able to give 5,000 bottles of water and 350 lbs of rice and beans to a church that can distribute them…There was a meeting for pastors from Port-au-Prince who were able to tell us what they needed. We’re now able to partner with them and help them meet the needs of those in their community…”   —Ashley Musick We want to serve the Haitian church as it follows God’s leading in the years to come. We are preparing to make a long-term investment, and one need is for a vehicle to help transport supplies and volunteers into the places where...

Youth Ministry Advance Team Returns From Haiti

On Friday, February 12, after flying into the Dominican Republic the previous day, the Youth Advance Team drove across the mountains to Haiti. Upon arrival, they brought hot chocolate to families and victims at a hospital in Jimani, where they developed relationships and listened to people’s stories.  One man, Francois, from Port-au-Prince told the team his unforgettable story: When the earthquake occurred, he and his wife, Elina, who was nine-months pregnant at the time, were in their home in a five-story building. The entire structure collapsed on top of them, but thankfully,...

How You Can Pray for the Youth Ministry Advance Team in Haiti

Today, AIM is sending a team of ministry bloggers (along with two staff) to Haiti to capture the stories of what God is doing through AIM and the Haitian church. They will be sharing (through blogs, twitter posts, and video) how Haiti is recovering from the earthquake that struck almost exactly one month ago and how you can help.   You can follow regular updates on Facebook, via email, or on our Haiti blog.   For those who want to pray for the group by name, here is a little more about the team (click their names to visit their site or blog where they’ll be posting updates from...
