She Shared the Gospel Hundreds of Times Before She Believed It Herself

Sometimes it’s really surprising who is impacted most by a missions team. Adventures staff Nicole Ricketts saw this firsthand while leading a youth group trip to Nicaragua. Their translator was a young woman, Fresia, who wasn’t a Christian, and though she didn’t realize it, she was hungry for God’s love.  By the end of the week, Fresia had shared the Gospel hundreds of times. She’d translated testimonies and she’d shared her own story with the team. And then something amazing happened! I could tell our youth team was a little uneasy when they...

She Heard about Jesus and Wanted to Know More

For first time in over 50 years, it is safe to openly share the Gospel on the streets of Cuba. When Neila Betancourt and her team went prayer walking in Santi Spiritus, she met a woman named Maria and told her about the local church.  Maria wanted to know more. Then Neila told her about Jesus, and Maria heard the Gospel—perhaps for the first time. Being from New York City, I don’t see horses very often. So when my team started walking down the country road in Cuba and I saw horses in the next field, I squealed and pretty much made a fool of myself. Thankfully, my teammates...

He was Desperate and Asked for Money. But He Really Wanted Something Else.

While leading a short term trip to Haiti, Adventures staff Colby Gardner met a man who aggressively asked him for money or a job. His name was Jean Pierre, and he was desperate for hope. While in Haiti, my team went out to share the Gospel out in the countryside. So we left our lodging and not long after, shared with two people under the tree not even fifty feet from our starting point. While sharing with the second person, a man rolled up on his motorcycle and sat, listening with great intent to what we were saying. When I turned and asked this curious motorcycle man how he was doing,...

God Spoke to a Voodoo Priestess in a Dream, and Then He Set Her Free

While leading an Adventures short term trip to Haiti, Dayna Bickham saw God set a priestess free from the bondage of voodoo. Haiti has been steeped in darkness and voodoo for centuries. It is also a nation ripe for harvest. On a prayer walk through the country side of Haiti, climbing hills and rocky trails, a group of short term missionaries made their way through the small village of Merger.  At the top of a hill, waiting as if she expected them, stood a woman named Fabiola*. Dressed as a voodoo priestess, she wore rings that denoted her “marriage” to the spirit...

Our Unexpected Visit Deep in the Heart of Rural China

Race Alum Zach Murphy is currently on a Kingdom Journeys Pioneer Team, traveling overland for six months from Beijing to Instabul. One night, their team decided to visit a small village in Northern China, not knowing where they would sleep or if anyone would even speak to them. What they found were 100 villagers welcoming them with open arms. One night we went of to the middle of nowhere in rural Inner Mongolia, Northern China. We arrived at the Ulanqab train station at 2 in the afternoon, grabbed a taxi, and handed the driver a piece of paper that had a random village our friend from...

He Was Shocked to Realize God Saw Him

While at a baptism service on a public beach in Cuba, Adventures staff Connie Rock picked up a heart-shaped rock, intending to take it home as a souvenir. But it turns out the rock was for someone else. The waves crashed over us as we attempted to keep our frail friend from being swept away into the Caribbean Sea. She was dressed in white and all smiles. Her eyes lit up as one brother talked about the meaning of baptism and the other translated into Spanish. “I baptize you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” “Yo te bautizo en el nombre del Padre, Hijo, y...
